What Degony doesn't like in most rpg/mmorpg is the lack of realism:

  • killing a rabbit and dropping an ancient armor
  • crafting some leather pants by using animal bone, steel, iron
  • killing a creature and getting the xp only after you kill it
  • leveling up and then choosing the attributes and skills you want to focus on
  • wearing some boots that give 30 lightning resistance and give you +1 to the spell "Meteor Shower"
  • ... and many other

All my respect goes to D&D and all the pen&paper games. They started these games, but because everything had to be calculated on a piece of paper and throw some dices, there were some limitations. It's too sad, that the gaming industry is only improving the visual aspect of the game, but the fighting system, leveling, item drops, etc hasn't yet suffered any major changes. Yes, it's true, most games have their own system, but it's not that different from D&D. Adding minor changes and modifying some naming conventions only for the sake of being a bit different, doesn't help that much.

Degony will try to be as realistic as possible. There won't be any hunger, fatigue, sleeping, taxes and other things that aren't fun at all in real life. So the idea is to make the game realistic and fun at the same time, even if that means dropping some realistic facts. Besides the fun element, there's also the need for preventing players to exploit different aspects of the game, for instance equipping yourself with the best gear in the game when you are only level 1 and you just started the game.

Realistic facts:

  • Killing a creature will give you all their equipped gear and belongings. Gold is only dropped by creatures that may carry gold. Bears will never drop gold coins.
  • There are no NPC quests. There are bounties though.
  • Crafting items will imply materials that actually exist in that item.

Non-realistic facts:

  • Travelling is instant on the navigation map. (not fun when you wait for the sake of travelling)
  • Killing a player won't give you his items. (not fun for those that die)
  • Items have player level requirements (anti-exploit)
