Every time you use a skill, it gives you experience to that active skill and also gives a small amount of experience (30%) to the passive skills with which that active skill is connected.
Example: the Strike skill and the Shoot skill have a connection with the Wildcat Battle Spirit passive skill. This means that every time you're using the Strike or Shoot skill and gain
experience, 30% of that experience will be given to the Wildcat Battle Spirit skill too.
Once a skill reaches a certain amount of xp it levels up. A skill level can't be higher than 99. In conclusion, you level up your active skills depending on how often you use them, while
the passive skills level up according to the connections with the used active skills.
Depending on the success of the skill, it will grant different experience:
- Skill succeeds - you get the full amount of the experience (100% xp)
- Skill is avoided, so you or the skill damage is absorbed by the enemy resistances - you get 20% xp
Depending with who I'm fighting with, whether it's a creature or a player, the amount of xp for skills is calculated differently:
- Fighting with a creature and win gives only 20% xp
- Fighting with a creature and you die, but the party wins gives you only 10% xp
- Fighting with a player and win gives 100% xp
- Fighting with a player and you die, but the party wins gives you only 70%
- Fighting with a creature or player and loose doesn't give you any xp
You only get 20% of xp while fighting with creatures, because the creatures are a bit weaker than the players and mostly because Degony is a game that embraces PvP and not PvE. Fighting
with creatures is still encouraged but only to get items, materials and gold, not for experience.
The overall level of the player is calculated depending on the combat skills and not the non-combat skills. This means that even if you have like 15 levels on crafting and 20 levels on
enchanting, if you have like 3 levels on strike and 1 level on shoot your overall level will range between 1 and 2.
The NPC trainer will give you new skills and upgrade your profession in exchange for gold.
